Our tour with Road Scholar was set on certain areas with lots of history and art. The Pope's Palace was one of those areas of wonder. The palace is huge. The tour guide did such a good job giving the history behind the time there were two popes and how that tied in to other historical events. Each room had a trove of stories regarding the time period and how it related to what was going on elsewhere in the world. In addition to the palace, there is a park with a beautiful overlook of the river and bridge of Avignon below and across the river to another walled city across the countryside. It was much better with a guide than it would have been only touring it by ourselves.
Q:
Is there a better day of the week to visit? And time of day?
A:
Not sure about which day but would get there as early as you can to avoid the mid morning tour groups.
Q:
Traveling with disabled lady, is the Pope's Place wheelchair friendly?
A:
no it is not.
