You are able to but the isles are not that wide for many people

You can check the Hudson Yards website for free reservations. I recommend that you try to book it in advance if you have a particular time/day you'd like go. Otherwise, it can be hit or miss as to how crowded it is and whether you'll be able to get free tickets if you show up and use the kiosks at the Vessel. (The "Flexipass" is the one that costs $10, so if you are looking for free viewing--and no reason not to--then don't choose the Flexipass.)

Yes, you need to make the reservation in advance. I personally like both sunset and evening views.
