The Kerala High Court on Friday upheld the state government's decision to acquire a portion of land possessed by Harrisons Malayalam Limited and Elstone Tea Estate Limited for the construction of a township to rehabilitate survivors of the Chooralmala and Mundakkai landslides in Wayanad.

The Kerala High Court ruled that the state government can acquire land from Harrisons Malayalam Limited and Elstone Tea Estate Limited to establish a model township for victims of the Wayanad landslide.

The High Court said the plantation companies should be paid compensation in accordance with provisions of the Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
