Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander has beamed home stunning views of the moon from an altitude of just 62 miles (100 kilometers).

The Blue Ghost lunar lander has captured a striking up-close view of Earth's cosmic neighbor as it prepares in the days ahead to land on the moon.

Blue Ghost is aiming to become the second private lander to successfully soft-land on the moon, just over a year after Intuitive Machines' Odysseus lander. If all goes well, the solar-powered spacecraft will operate on the surface of the moon for one lunar day, or about 14 Earth days, with lunar sunset expected to bring an end to the mission.

Over a half-century after astronauts walked on the moon, landing remains a daunting endeavor. On March 2, Texas-based Firefly Aerospace will attempt the ambitious feat, as it will direct its robotic Blue Ghost spacecraft to land in Mare Crisium,
