Indian Railways has opened a new holding area for the passengers at New Delhi Railway Station after the stampede incident which killed 18 people earlier this month. The new area is set to hold 10,000 passengers,

15 of the 18 died of traumatic asphyxia, two died of hemorrhagic shock and one died of a head injury, according to the postmortem reports

Many of the victims were Hindu pilgrims who were traveling to the Maha Kumbh festival in Prayagraj in northern India, officials said.

At least 18 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a stampede that broke out on February 15 at the New Delhi Railway Station due to the Maha Kumbh rush. The stampede was preceded by a swell in crowd of passengers waiting to board trains for Prayagraj on platform number 14 and 15 of the station.

The Union railways ministry contended that allowing footage of the casualties to remain on the social media platform was against ethical norms.
