As a winter storm moves through Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, some school districts are beginning to announce if classes will resume.

Several thousand power outages have been reported in Southeast Georgia after a rare winter storm blanketed the area in snow and ice.

Crews were working Wednesday to restore power to thousands of people affected by the overnight winter storm that impacted Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida.

At least nine people are believed to have died as a result of the dangerous cold gripping much of the country, as a once-in-a-generation winter storm wreaks havoc on the Gulf Coast — a region wholly unaccustomed to winter weather.

Schools in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida are closing or adjusting schedules due to an approaching winter storm with potential icy conditions.

Between school closures and power outages, the effects of the winter storms of the past several days have shown it’s effect throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
