Tata Steel's Q3 profit beats estimates at Rs 295 crore despite a global slowdown. Stock gains on strong domestic demand, higher volumes, and reduced net debt, say analysts.

The steel manufacturer's profit fell 36% in the third quarter to Rs 327 crore. In the year-ago period, Tata Steel had posted a profit of Rs 513 crore. The company's profit in the quarter under review beat the Rs 300-crore-loss estimate of analysts polled by Bloomberg.

Tata Steel's consolidated profit for the December quarter fell 43% to ₹295.5 crore, impacted by global steel price declines. However, strong performance in India helped offset losses, with sales reaching 7.

Indian carmaker Tata Motors fell more than 7% in early trade on Thursday after reporting a bigger-than-expected drop in quarterly profit, which pushed a slew of brokerages to slash price targets on the stock.
