Former Washington state Gov. and U.S. Sen. Dan Evans has died. The popular Republican was 98. He served as governor from 1965 to 1977, and he was the keynote speaker at the 1968 National Republican Convention.

Gov. Dan Evans, the three-term Republican governor of Washington who never lost another political race after high school, died Friday.

Dan Evans, who served three terms as governor, and later one term in the U.S. Senate, became the younger governor in state history at age 39.
