For the first time in more than a decade, Fort Worth officially has a new city manager. The city welcomed incoming City Manager Jesus “Jay” Chapa to his new role with a swearing-in ceremony followed immediately by a City Council meeting at old City Hall on Tuesday.

Fort Worth welcomed new City Manager Jay Chapa on Tuesday. Chapa was sworn in during Tuesday morning's meeting of the City Council at Old City Hall. He is the city's first Hispanic city manager.

Formerly deputy city manager, Jesus “Jay” Chapa replaces David Cooke as city manager. Cooke is retiring in February after more than 10 years of service to the city. Chapa is Fort Worth's first Hispanic city manager.

Williams, the council’s youngest member, joins Mayor Pro Tem Gyna Bivens, it’s longest serving member, in not seeking re-election. As of 3 p.m. on Jan. 21, no other candidate has filed to run to represent the district.

Fort Worth’s next city manager started the job Tuesday. Jay Chapa has worked for the city 25 years and replaces David Cooke, who is retiring. “We’re very proud of David Cooke’s tenure in this city,” says Mayor Mattie Parker.
