Stock Market LIVE Updates | Indian markets rose on Thursday, marking the second consecutive day of gains in the new year. The Nifty index saw a significant 2% increase, its biggest gain since late November.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,734 level, a discount of nearly 70 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Highlights: On the last trading day of the year, Sensex ended 109 points lower amid weakness in IT and select banks. IT index slipped 1.5%, while India VIX rose over 3% on Tuesday.

At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex was down by 58 points, or 0.07%, at 79,885, while the Nifty50 stood at 24,151.55, slipping by 37 points, or 0.15%. Markets in the Asia-Pacific region were mixed on Friday.
