Several current and former Patriots have spoken out after New England made the call to fire Jerod Mayo after one season on the job.

There was some genuine surprise, as many expressed support for Mayo. At the same time, they also seemed to understand the move after a 4-13 season.

The Patriots have to avoid becoming a revolving door of head coaching hires because of the devastating impact that could have on the team as a whole. It could hurt quarterback Drake Maye’s development, while also making the team a far less attractive destination for prospective coaches and players.
