The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday that it fired four Federal Emergency Management Agency officials over payments provided to New York City to house migrants, arguing without evidence that the officials circumvented leadership.

The Department of Homeland Security had warned that whoever was responsible for the payment to the New York City hotels should expect to be fired.

The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency fired its chief financial officer and three other employees, accusing them of making "egregious payments" for New York City hotels used for migrants, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement on Tuesday.
