CBS is seeking the dismissal of Donald Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview last year with former Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump had claimed “voter interference” by the television newsmagazine in the way it edited and broadcast Harris' interview.

CBS on Thursday filed two motions to dismiss an amended complaint to the lawsuit filed against it by President Trump before he took office last October. Why it matters: CBS is under extraordinary pressure to resolve its legal battle with the president as it awaits regulatory approval for a merger between its parent company Paramount and Skydance Media.

Paramount on Thursday asked a federal judge in Texas to dismiss the $20 billion lawsuit. The media company separately has agreed to have a mediator look at the case.

Paramount Global And CBS’ legal team issued a broadside against Donald Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit over the way that 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris, as the network has characterized the litigation as an “affront to the First Amendment.

"This lawsuit is an affront to the First Amendment and is without basis in law or fact," writes Thomas Riney, a lawyer for CBS, in the filing.
