Over the past week, many West Virginians were placed under a Winter Storm Warning as Winter Storm Blair blew across the state, but what made Blair a winter storm instead of a blizzard?

There are three types of alerts that can be issued: a winter storm watch, a winter weather advisory and a winter storm warning

"Temperatures remain below freezing across much of the area. Slick roads and areas of black ice will continue through the morning. Please use caution if you have to be out on the road or delay travel until temperatures warm. Slow down, use caution, and travel only if necessary this morning," states the NWS Morristown TN.

NWS had marked many counties in Kentucky as part of a winter storm warning. The NWS map at weather.gov showed nearly all Kentucky counties in the pink category for "winter storm warning" as of noon. Some in the northeast are labeled "winter weather advisory.
