The Bears have another of Ben Johnson's guys, but one with ties from long ago. The signing of tight end Durham Smythe, a move according to Ian Rapoport's report, nets the Bears a second tight end without being someone who steps all over Cole Kmet's feet.

League sources at the combine said they're intrigued to see what the Bears look like with the pairing of Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.

Chicago still has plenty of needs, including at center and potentially at left tackle, as well as on the defensive edge. But new head coach Ben Johnson's previous relationship with Ryan Tannehill could be a bridge to the team putting some more experience in the quarterback room at a reasonable price.
