Overall, Southern California is seeing a 26% increase in the areas designated in that highest level, according to California's State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal released new maps that indicate which parts of San Diego County are in a very high-risk zone for fires.

The pile burning project, named Drd Piles Wcsl, was initiated 7:51 a.m. Jan. 28 in San Diego County. The prescribed fire has been burning on federal land managed by the United States Forest Service for almost two months.
