The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Central and South Texas, from Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon.

San Antonio may have missed a shot at seeing snow on Thursday, but forecasters say the area will see drenching cold rain. The National Weather Service said cold rain will hit San Antonio after 9 a.m.

The Alamo City officially recorded 0.10 of an inch of snow at the San Antonio International Airport, which makes Tuesday morning’s event the first measurable snowfall found since February 2021. Thankfully, this event was nothing compared to the multi-day deep freeze that we all remember nearly four years ago.

A Winter Storm Warning that was in effect for Bexar County and many other counties south and east of San Antonio has been canceled. It began at 6 p.m. Monday and was scheduled to end at 6 p.m. Tuesday, but it was called off at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The grocery stores in San Antonio will close at 10 p.m. Monday and will reopen at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Its stores in Boerne, Bulverde, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and New Braunfels will close at 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service reported another bitter cold arctic cold front will push into the Alamo City on Sunday. Highs this week will gradually warm from the 50s into the 60s by week's end. Forecasters said half the area could see some light rain accumulations on Tuesday night and Wednesday, mostly south of U.S. 90 and west of U.S. 281.

A winter storm was on a track to sweep through Texas and Louisiana, across the Gulf Coast and deep into Florida, significant snow and ice in tow.
