Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) is celebrating his swearing-in as a U.S. House of Representatives member with a special ceremony happening now at Laredo City Hall. The event began at 10 a.m.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), whose district borders Mexico, said he supports President Trump’s decision to send 1,500 troops to the southern border. He added, however, that the move is expensive

Congressman Cuellar starts his 11th term with a focus on modernizing infrastructure, enhancing border security, and increasing funds for TX-28's development.

Cuellar also faces a corruption trial this spring for charges of bribery, money laundering and working illegally on behalf of the Azerbaijani government. He's denied those allegations and this summer set up a legal fund to cover his court expenses.

The bill, named for Laken Riley, a Georgia student killed by an immigrant, adds legislative muscle to President Trump’s immigration enforcement push.

Cuellar joins one other Democrat nationally in supporting a bill to block federal funding for schools allowing transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports

WASHINGTON - Two Texas Democrats were members of the party to vote to ban transgender athletes in girls' sports. Reps. Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) and Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) were the only two Democrats to vote yes on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

Rep. Henry Cuellar says just like his father who was an immigrant, “If somebody comes over as a ‘guest,’ they gotta follow the law.”
