A project aimed at adding 230 wind turbines near the Minidoka National Historical site has been put on hold indefinitely.

Three corporations hold leases to build floating wind farms in the 376-square-mile Morro Bay Wind Energy Area about 20 miles offshore of Cambria and San Simeon. Equinor, Invenergy and Ocean Winds will hold onto their Central Coast leases — but their projects may face delays when they eventually seek federal development permits.

As promised, President Donald Trump dealt a blow to the offshore wind industry on his first day in office Monday by signing an executive order that halts new leases for offshore wind farms in federal waters.
