NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Newport News Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a burglary suspect. On Thursday, Jan. 2, officers responded to a call at approximately 8:45 a.m. in reference to a disturbance at a business in the 10700 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Law enforcement in Newport News are investigating the death of an inmate at the Newport News City Jail on Saturday morning. According to the Newport News Sheriff’s Office, a deputy making rounds found a 38-year-old male inmate unresponsive in a seated position at 3:03 a.
