The snowstorm has coated traditionally warmer parts of Southern USA with a deep lining of white powder, leading to flight cancellations and the closure of at least one airport.

South-central Georgia and Florida's Big Bend area could see ice totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Tallahassee could get a dusting of snow and a quarter of an inch of ice − enough to make roads impassable and knock out power lines from the winter storm forecast to hit the area.

Residents across the country are bracing for dangerously low temperatures while the East Coast contends with a thick blanket of snow.

Several states were under either winter storm warnings or winter weather advisories from the NWS early Monday morning.
