Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory body led by Elon Musk, has zeroed in on some agencies as part of its efforts to slash the size of government. President Donald Trump's newly installed management and budget director Russell Vought took control of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Friday, according to the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Vought was an architect of Project 2025. He takes over at the consumer finance watchdog as Elon Musk's representatives gained access to the bureau's systems and accounts, including sensitive data.
