After Netflix filed an opposition to the trademark infringement lawsuit over 'Running Point', a judge has denied Pepperdine University's motion.

A federal court on Wednesday denied a motion by the private Christian college to stop Netflix from showing the basketball comedy, saying use of contested marks by the show did not violate the Lanham Act.

On Tuesday, Netflix filed an opposition in Central California’s U.S. District Court claiming that “Running Point has nothing to do with universities or college sports,” following Pepperdine University’s trademark infringement lawsuit over the logo for the show’s fictional team The Waves.

The lawsuit claims the show promotes themes that don’t correspond to the university’s values, including alcohol and substance use, sexual innuendo and imagery, and foul language.
