Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter was selected Tuesday as a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, presented to the nation’s top defensive player by the Maxwell Football Club.

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar and defensive end Abdul Carter each received semifinalist recognition on Tuesday. Allar was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, given annually to the nation’s best quarterback.

Penn State said Tuesday that a man who could be heard using a racial slur multiple times in a video posted to social media resigned Monday from a commonwealth campus’ advisory board.

A university spokesman said the owner of The Paddock on Market restaurant is no longer a member of the advisory board.
