A sinkhole that opened up Thursday along Interstate 80 in northern New Jersey forced authorities to close the heavily traveled highway’s eastbound lanes.

Interstate 80 reopened through North Jersey on Monday morning, four days after a sinkhole swallowed the road and snarled traffic during the busy holiday weekend. Repair crews worked around the clock to fix the damage in Wharton, where a giant chunk of the right shoulder in the eastbound lanes collapsed on Thursday morning.
