A woman visiting from Connecticut was shot while walking with her 11-year-old son Sunday night across the street from AMC River East 21 in Streeterville, a movie theater that has raised concerns about violence and loitering.

Fire crews treated the 46-year-old woman, who was then taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition and later released. She was walking with her young son at the time when she was shot, according to police.

Witnesses dining at a nearby restaurant told NBC Chicago they heard gunshots, which led to diners hitting the deck inside, with a large police presence outside.
