A mammoth and multifaceted storm – which was dealing wind, fire, choking dust and the threat of a blizzard – pummeled much of the country as it marched east.

ATLANTA (AP) — Powerful storms that killed three people in Mississippi and ripped roofs from buildings in a small Oklahoma town charged eastward Wednesday, spawning tornado warnings near the East Coast while heavy snow struck the Midwest and dry, windy weather fanned wildfires in Texas.

In Irving, a tornado with winds up to 110 mph struck, while another touched down in the 16,000-resident city of Ada, Oklahoma, according to preliminary information from the National Weather Service. There were also two tornadoes in Louisiana’s northern Caddo Parish and at least five in eastern Oklahoma.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit with severe storms Tuesday that spawned an EF-1 tornado in Irving and, meteorologists confirmed Wednesday another EF-1 tornado and wind damage in Wise County. Residents in Irving — where the weather service confirmed a tornado touched down on Pioneer Drive between North MacArthur and North O’Connor boulevards — reported the wind shaking their homes.
