The TCN is a 17-character data element assigned to control and manage every shipment unit throughout the transportation pipeline and for payment processing. The TCN for each shipment unit is unique and not to be duplicated within the Defense Transportation System (DTS) during the life cycle of the TCN construct (see note below).

Disposal turn-in document (DTID) is a 14 character value that consists of the property book DoDAAC, followed by the julian date, and a four digit serial number. This DTID is unique to a specific transaction. Enter the national stock number for the property to be turned in. Only one NSN per document.

This chapter governs the accountability, application, issuance, preparation, and distribution of a cargo commercial bill of lading (CBL) and contains instructions for the procurement of transportation from Transportation Service Providers (TSP).

The transportation control number (TCN) is the key element in tracking FAS Distribution Operation shipments and must appear on the shipping label with “in the clear text” and barcode information. Figure 2 illustrates the minimum information needed to ship our customers’ orders.
