Why didn't kanem conquer further west after the fall of songhay
Sep 24, 2023 · Borno (or Kanem-Borno, or Bornu) did send an envoy to Morocco. But besides parts of Hausaland and Air, I don't think they ever tried to conquer Songhay. My guess is that Idris b. Ali (Idris Alooma) had more pressing concerns and perhaps invading Songhay after endeavoring to ask for support and arms from Morocco was a bad idea?
